Mismatch repair / Cell cycle regulation

Genetic instability and deregulated cell cycle control are hallmarks of human cancer. Research in our group involves both aspects focusing on (1) cancer predisposition by loss of DNA mismatch repair or defects in the Fanconi anemia chromosome maintenance pathway and (2) the role of cell cycle checkpoints in mutation avoidance and tumor suppression. The principle tools include gene inactivation in murine embryonic stem cells (ESC) and analyses of the phenotypic consequences in homozygous, heterozygous and chimeric knockout mice and in cell lines derived thereof.
